The government of the state of Khaatomo State is based on the principles of the federal government of Somalia, in which each citizen has the right to vote for elected representatives. The state government is composed of the executive, legislative and judicial branches. The executive branch is headed by the Governor of Khaatumo State, who is elected by the people of the state. The governor is responsible for appointing the heads of the various state departments, and for approving and signing laws passed by the Khaatumo State Legislature.
